National letter-writing competition for young people 2024

As part of the preparation for Algeria’s participation in the International letter-writing competition for young people 2024, the National letter-writing competition for young people has been launched for the 2024 edition with the theme proposed by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on sustainable development as follows “Write a letter to future generations about the world you hope they inherit.

This competition, yearly organized by Algeria under the patronage of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and Algerie Poste incorporation, jointly with the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Solidarity, Family and Women Condition as well as the National Organ for Child Promotion and Protection, is an excellent opportunity to reinforce children’s capacities, refine their expression abilities through words and highlighting the social and education role of the postal sector in the daily life.

Criteria of participation:

1. Age group concerned:

The competition is open for children whose ages are between 9 and 15.

2. Shape and content of the letter:

  • The letter shall be drafted in either of the two national languages: Arabic or Amazigh,
  • It shall contain these elements : the author’s identity (name, surname, date and place of birth, instruction level, his tutor’s phone number, name of his school with the mention of the province he belongs to), the date, the addressee, the opening greeting, the body of the letter, the final greetings and signature.
  • The candidate’s participation shall be in one letter only.
  • The full respect of the theme and number of allowed words, i.e. 800.

3. Organization of the competition and selection of winners:

  • The letters shall be submitted in the period from Sunday, February 18th, 2024 to Wednesday, April 10th, 2024 as follows:
    • Nationwide: schools, special schools or post offices – in this case – the letter shall be put in a closed envelope without postage stamp, destined for: Mister the Director of Post and Telecommunications (with the mention of the concerned province) bearing the title: “National letter-writing competition for young people 2024”.
    • Or by mail to this address:
  • The selection of letter goes through three stages: in the province, at regional level then at the national level.
  • The announcement of national winners is scheduled for the beginning of May 2024.
  • The best national letter will be sent to the international bureau of the UPU to represent Algeria at the International letter-writing competition, before May 5th, 2024.
  • Laureates of the best national letter will receive valuable prizes.
