Widespread access to Fixed Internet

Fixed internet network Development: Major advancements

Connected Algeria: Our commitment for a quality fixed internet

Pursuant to article 29 of law 18-04, the Algerian State entrusted to Algérie Télécom, the historical operator and holder of licence, the main task of developing and exploiting national electronic communications networks.

  • Our strategic goals : Connectivity and Performance

Our sector is mobilized for atteining two major goals to transform fixed internet view in Algeria through:

1-Accelerating fixed internet penetration : We aim at significantly increasing the number of connected households, to ensure a larger access to connectivity.

2-Modernizing the Access Network : We prioritize the deployment of fiber to the home (FTTH) to ensure an unmatched service quality to our citizens.

  • A tangible progress : Key figures and Ambitions

Our strategy to generalize internet access nationwide, in a bid to make connectivity widespread, paid off :

1-An ambitious goal : by the end of 2027, we set as a goal to reach 7 million households connected to fixed internet.

2-Conclusive results : the number of fixed internet subscribers climed from 3.5 millions early 2020, to over 6.6 millions in the first half of 2025. Such figures prove that our sector has reached its intermediate objectives.

Algeria is proudly positioned : Based on the ITU’s official statistics, Algeria is ranked the second -largest pool of fixed internet suscribers in Africa. This is a tangible proof of our progress.

  • Access for all : Improved speed and investments

The development of our pool of subscribers is backed up by a significant progress of the user experience :

  • Minimum Speed Multiplied by Five:  the minimum internet speed offered has increased to reach 10 Mbps, i.e. it has multiplied by five compared to 2020, without any financial impact for the citizens.
  • Uultra-fast speed : Thanks to the regular investments by our sector, we henceforth offer internet speed up to 1.2 Gbps, with a fluid and efficient surfing.

  • Fiber optic (FTTH) : The core of our quality strategy

Beyond the simple connection, our major challenge is to improve drastically the network’s quality and efficiency. That is why we bet on FTTH, the cutting-edge technology for broadband access enabling :

  • Very high speed internet access,
  • Better stability and reduced latency,
  • Increased resistance to electromagnetic disturbance,
  • A decrease in service outages.

To that end, we strive for connecting new urban poles and residential districts to this technology.

Meanwhile, the gradual migration of copper network subscribers to fiber optic network is underway to ensure an optimal user experience.

The modernization effort is reflected through the exponential growth of the number of households connected to FTTH :

  • From 53 394 households in 2020 to 478 172 in the end of 2022.
  • Over 2,2 million houselholds connected to FTTH in the first half of 2025.

Such figures are evidence of our determination to offer cutting-edge connectivity to every Algerian house, for a more rapid, trustworthy and accessible digital future.

Algeria keeps transforming its digital infrastructure actively aiming at offering fixed broadband internet for all everywhere and of quality to meet citizens’ expectations.
