As part of implementing the full digitisation approach and in line with the orientations of President of the Republic as regards FTTH generalization, the execution of the action plan set to that end has enabled to reach 1.5 million connected households.
This new development reflects the increase in the number of connected households climbing from 53 thousand houselholds in 2020, to one million in November 2023, to exceed 1.5 million houselholds in October 2024 nationwide.
This quantitative progress is backed up by the qualitative improvement of internet speed to subscribers. Indeed, Algérie Télécom has launched a range of offers with low prices to those who aspire to benefit from high-speed broadband, i.e. 1Gbit/s on demand.
Technically speaking, FTTH has unique features in terms of quality based on clients’ requirements and needs. Thanks to the fiber optic along the process between optical interconnection and subscribers, this technology allows to have access to the broadband and rapid response in the event of electromagnetic interference.
It is worth mentioning the FTTH generalization program keeps going through :
-linking all the households which are not yet connected to fixed internet, mainly in new districts and urban areas,
-modernizing copper networks and migration of xDSL subscribers to FTTH.
To conclude, as a reminder, Algeria’s achievement by adopting this technology is included within the ongoing progress in the full number of connected households to fixed internet, which has grown from 3.5 millions early 2020 to 5.8 millions in October 2024.
