Minister for Post and Telecommunications, Karim Bibi Triki, took part in a ministerial round table at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, on the main progress made in the development of the global information society, a high-level event in which participating ministers shared their countries’ experiences in this field in order to reduce the digital divide.
In this context, the minister recalled Algeria’s commitment to building an information society based on information and communication technologies (ICTs) as part of its efforts to achieve sustainable development and social inclusion.
He also pointed out that the current efforts in the field of ICT deployment are not only aimed at connecting individuals, but also at creating a vibrant digital environment and providing access to these technologies to all citizens to reduce the digital divide and provide quality services, which requires the provision of appropriate infrastructures.
Algeria has been developing telecommunications networks and connecting the
unconnected, in a dynamic aimed at accelerating the transition to the digital economy and keeping pace with the various developments in this field, said Karim Bibi Triki, noting that the projects implemented have enabled 80% of Algerian citizens to have regular access to high-flow internet through various technologies, through the use of significant investments, in view of Algeria’s vastness and the necessary provision of quality services for all its citizens without exclusion.
