Minister of Post and Telecommunications Mr. Sid Ali Zerrouki has paid, on Saturday, March 8th, 2025 with Algiers Governor, Mr. Mohamed Abdennour Rabhi, a field visit to Algiers Central Post Office commonly known as “la Grande Poste”.
The minister and the governor have listened to a presentation about the renovation and rehabilitation process in this post office and its premises, made by a qualified civil engineering consultancy specialised in restoring listed monuments and sites.
It should be mentioned the works concerning this building involve four stages:
1-The rehabilitation of the great hall with the museum, located in the same building, which is under construction and will serve, after delivery, to exhibit various postage stamps that had been issued since the national sovereinty recovery for the public and philatelists.
2-The emergency works, which administrative procedures have ended and the works launching is scheduled shortly by the contractor.
3-The studies relating to the renovation of this post office premises in order to preserve its historical dimension.
4-The launch of a competition for making the most of this monument in the future.
Alongside this visit, the minister has met, along with the governor, with stamp collectors near this central post office where he had the opportunity to see many stamps and talk with these philatelists. In this respect, it has been decided to reserve a space for them given their role in enhancing this Algerian heritage in order to find the suitable ways to preserve it and leave it for the future generations.
