MR. Sid Ali Zerrouki, Minister of Post and Telecommunications has inaugurated on Thursday, February 20th, 2025 the first Skills Center dedicated to short and free training in advanced technologies in Sétif, among a series of other centers to be set up accross the country.
This center is meant as a free and specialized training space for young people in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing and robotics. It also aspires to be a key driver for preparing a new generation of skills to be up to leading the digital transformation in Algeria.
In this context, the Minister has pointed out that the accelerated digital transformation backed up by the telecoms infrastructure’s development as well as the widespread use of the ICTs, cannot be
achieved without investing in the human capital which represents the basis for this process.
In this respect, this centre will be the core of the national network of skills centers that will contribute to reinforce the young people’s capacities and their preparation for the future skills. As such, they will be efficiently adapted to the national and international digital sphere. This centre will also enable to build successful partnerships with universities and economic companies in order to enhance scientific resesarch and develop the technological solutions likely to meet the needs of the national and regional markets.
He also added this centre is meant as a real step towards creating a national integrated system of skills which offers our future generations promising opportunities in the digital economy and reinforces Algeria’s position as a a competitive and innovative regional technology hub.
In line with President of the Republic’s insightful vision to support startups and innovation, the minister said the sector will launch, via Groupe Télécom Algérie (GTA), an investment fund of 1.5 billion dinars, to be dedicated to support startups operating in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and robotics , to contribute as such to sustain technological innovation and create new jobs for young people.
Furthermore, the Minister has visited the exhibition stands set up at Skills center, then inspected the various facilities dedicated to host startups, artificial intelligence lab, training platforms, co-working spaces and conference halls.
In conclusion, a framework agreement has been signed between Algérie Télécom and Ferhat Abbas University, Mohamed Lamine Debaghine University, the Direction of Industry as well the general Bureau of the Algerian economic renewal Council (CREA), aiming at developing a startup ecosystem, promoting entrepreneurship and supporting young people’s participation in the digitalization process nationwide.
